Ford filed a trademark application for Flash F-150 in the United States, this could suggest a more efficient version of the pickup – or its electric Lightning sub-version – is coming.
XeBuzz discovered the trademark filing on Website of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Ford has yet to comment on the trademark filing, or what it means for F-150 line up.
This early year, Ford Performance revealed a high-performance electric pickup will be built – but only in demonstration form, dampening speculation that a production-ready vehicle could also be in the works.
Currently, the most powerful version of the electric F-150 Lightning ute has a production dual-motor setup 420kW power and 1050Nm of torque.
Ford offers a more powerful version of the F-150 under the name Raptor R, although this version trades the electric motor for a 5.2 liter turbocharged V8 manufacture 522kW power and 868Nm of torque.
Ford has recently detailed the 2023 model year update for the F-150 Lightning series brings a number of minor changes including a wider range, a Ford Pro Special Service Vehicle package, and higher US prices.
According to the brand’s US website, customers can order XLT, Lariat, and Platinum variants of the Lightning, but build slots for the base Pro model are no longer available for 2023.
Ford earlier this year halted production of the F-150 Lightning after the pickup caught fire at the company’s production facility. Manufacture reopened in March 2023.
The brand has yet to confirm whether the F-150 Lightning will enter the Australian range. However, we do know the Mustang Mach-E, Puma EV and e-Transit Connect will join the recently launched e-Transit in Australia.
