First IND vs SA T20I live score: Parnell eliminates Gaikwad, Iyer joins Kishan in midfield

Welcome to Sportsstar’s First T20I live broadcast of a five-match series between India and South Africa. This is Nihit Sachdeva takes you through the action as it unfolds at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

IND 75/1 in 8 episodes: SIX!!! It turned out to be a good result with only four runs of the first three balls from Shamsi but Iyer said more than enough was enough when he came down the field and slapped a long shot. Twelve above all.

Chinaman Tabraiz Shamsi to start his spell.

IND 63/1 in 7 episodes: SIX!!! At short distances and with Parnell’s front foot, Gaikwad swung the club hard so that the ball went through Pretorius’s hand in the foot with maximum advantage. TICKET !!! Parnell followed Gaikwad (23 shots on 15 balls), who struggled to make way for himself, failed to make the right connection and South Africa captain Bavuma had a simple mid-range catch. Shreyas Iyer is a newbie and he opened his account right away. FOUR !!! Short and good outside from Parnell, Kishan attacked it and defeated a diving Rabada in the depths.

IND 51/0 in 6 rounds: SIX !!! One of the flattest slugs ever darted off Gaikwad’s staff when Nortje threw a short in the side of his leg. FOUR !! Kishan drove one down to the third man using Nortje’s speed and beat Shamsi, who gave up pretty quickly. FOUR !!! Kishan achieved a glorious track past the cover for forty-five to India.

IND 36/0 for 5 rounds: Welcome back to T20 internationals, Wayne Parnell. Just a left-handed header.

Wayne Parnell, left-hander, has his first T20I goal for the national team in five years.

IND 35/0 in 4 passes: Two singles in the first three deliveries. FOUR! Rabada managed to get to the yorker and finished the bowling ball softly towards Kishan, who steered it back behind him. WIDE!! The South African players could not take advantage of favorable conditions when Rabada dangerously crossed the border. FOUR !!! It was unfortunate for Rabada that he was completely ahead of Kishan in length and rotation, but the ball went wide and took the lead for the third man.

Rabada back for another one.

IND 24/0 for 3 rounds: Nortje could not control movement as the ball went out of reach of Quinton de Kock from behind as India’s opener bye. SIX!!! Serve from a short pitch from Proteas pacer, Ruturaj pulls in and the top line goes all the way to the max with his forefoot. Gaikwad makes the last few serves at square range.

An immediate change in bowling was made when Bavuma introduced the fast pace of Anrich Nortje to replace Maharaj.

IND 15/0 in 2 passes: Gaikwad pushes the ball to the right in the middle and opens the account with a single shot. On the pad from Rabada and Kishan play it to the foot deep to grab one. Clean up from the knob when it’s only two runs and it falls out.

Rabada to Gaikwad.

IND 13/0 in 1 on: Ishan Kishan strikes. WIDE YEAR! Unbelievable second ball of the match as it went down the foot in five widths. FOUR! The outer edge brought the first runs for Kishan and India. FOUR !! Kishan slaps a slap through the deeper shell. More expensive than Maharaj and South Africa.

Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad to open the curtain for those in blue. Left-hander Keshav Maharaj scores South Africa’s first goal.

Direct action now.

IND v SA: World record beckons as T20 journey continues

By Abhishek Mukherjee

Armed with a new elite group of T20 players after a precise IPL stay and with a newcomer at the helm – Rishabh Pant – India continues its quest to fortify a solid pool of players for the T20 World Cup. Pant has been named captain for the T20 series against South Africa with just a day left of the first T20I at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday. KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav were ruled out of the five-match series due to training injuries.

Journalists had to wait an hour for the press conference scheduled at Arun Jaitley Stadium next Wednesday and it was Pant, the new captain, who arrived to applause just minutes after he assigned their role.

“It was a very good feeling. Didn’t come in too good of a situation, but at the same time I felt happy. I would like to thank BCCI for giving me the opportunity to lead the Indian side. I will try to make the most of it,” said Pant.

Despite new faces and a new group of leaders – Hardik Pandya has been appointed vice-captain – India will be favorites to win and thereby set a new world record for consecutive wins in T20Is, with 12 wins in the sprint – a run that goes back to the T20 World Cup group stage in the UAE. All members of the team are potential match winners in this format and have worked effectively in their respective roles during IPL 2022.

Then the series ahead serves to expand the pool of players willing to fill their roles for India. Some new stars – along with some not-so-new stars that will return based on their IPL performances – could even make a solid case for a more permanent role on the team.

The good news for India is that Hardik Pandya is not only perfectly fit and bowling regularly, but is also in great shape with the stick. This series gives Hardik, now second-in-command, a nice warm-up and the chance to match the team leadership’s plans and expectations ahead of the T20 World Cup. This is also an opportunity for Yuzvendra Chahal to cement her place in league 11 and become an automatic pick for the tournament later this year. If it weren’t for the right hand injury when hitting the ball in the net here, Kuldeep also has a great opportunity to return to playing prominently in the Indian national team shirt. Both spin players have excelled in the IPL, but the IPL is especially important for Kuldeep, whose performances across tournaments since the 2019 World Cup have gone downhill.

Among the fast pitchers on the team, Umran Malik, who bowled with oomph in the IPL, and Arshdeep Singh may not have been given the chance to compete right away. Head coach Rahul Dravid on Tuesday suggested that Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Avesh Khan could be the first three options. With Hardik as the almighty, India can go on with two hunters and two spinners. Following his feat with the stick for Royal Challengers Bangalore – hit average of 55 and strike rate of 182 – Dinesh Karthik is likely to find a spot in the lower mid-tier.

South Africa is also full of players capable of winning matches on their own. Many of them are part of IPL and are familiar with Indian players. Hot weather won’t be a problem either. But having not played a single T20 match since the T20 World Cup in the UAE last year, it won’t be easy for them to perform in sync as a group in a format very quickly after that.

David Miller, Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje will be keen to qualify with the Indians, but the fact that their sole shooters at Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj haven’t played much in the past two months puts the balance on the balance. with the support of the home team.

However, India can easily be taken by surprise. The last time it played T20 at Feroz Shah Kotla ground, in November 2019, it lost to Bangladesh. Bangladesh seemed to have been better prepared for that game as they played bowling with a plan and shortened the score run by repeatedly throwing the ball back one length and making the serve slower. India can take lessons from that and plan well for a track known to be low and slow. Long rather than full bowling can be a good strategy here as the straight lines are very short.

The Indians will also want to atone with white-ball cricket after suffering a 3-0 defeat at the hands of captain Rahul earlier this year in South Africa.
