Firmware update provides 8K 4:2:2 10-bit video recording for Sony Alpha 1


When leading Sony Alpha 1 announced in early 2021 with 8K/30p video recording like Canon EOS R5—The only other consumer-grade cameras at the time capable of doing so — we pointed out that Sony could only shoot 8K in 10-bit 4:2:0 quality, as opposed to 10 -bit 4:2:2 video shot by Canon. A new v2.1 firmware update for Sony’s acclaimed full-frame Alpha 7S III mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera is also available for immediate download.
