Fireworks have created a crisis for pets this New Year

Animal charities around the world are looking forward to the New Year, just like we are.

The difference is, they care about our furry friends while the rest worry about delivering a new year with a bang.

Many people will celebrate New Year’s Eve with fireworks. This can be a fun way to greet the year, as long as you’re not the dog or cat panicking when the fireworks start to explode.

Since October, the RSPCA has received more than 10,000 complaints about fireworks. It received many complaints for having a website that allows online reporting. As a result of the information they received, they found that 96% of the respondents said that when neighbors light fireworks without warning, their animals are scared.

Many problems can be caused by fireworks going off when animals are nearby. It can do more than scare them, they can run away and possibly get injured or die in the process.

In an interview with BBC News, RSPCA and Cheltenham Animal Shelter spoke of the hardships of recent years as many public events have had to be closed.

Coronavirus restrictions keep people at home, so they are trying to make the most of that with their own fireworks displays.

Rosie Taylor-Trigg, an animal behaviorist at Cheltenham Animal Shelter, says setting off fireworks at an animal is like being in a war zone. Even if a single display in one household doesn’t appear to be an issue, hundreds of other households feel the same way. That’s why it could be a problem.

To help keep the animals in your neighborhood safe, it’s best to look for a low-noise option to celebrate the new year or let your neighbors know about your plans ahead of time. Check out the tips in tweet below:
