Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin tests drugs as new video ‘shows married leader dancing close to pop star’ | World News

Finland’s prime minister said she had taken a drug test “to protect her own laws” after video emerged this week of her at a “wild” party with friends at her home .

Speaking at a press conference in Helsinki, Sanna Marin defended her actions and insisted she had never used illegal drugs.

“I did a drug test today and the results will be available within a week. I have never used drugs in my life,” the married mother-of-one told the media.

Ms Marin said she had been drinking during the party but added that her ability to perform her duties was not impaired on the night in question, apparently a few weeks ago, and that she would leave if asked. work.

She said she didn’t have any government meetings that weekend and “I had some time off and I spent it with my friends. And I didn’t do anything illegal. “.

It comes as a newly released video allegedly shows her dancing up close with a Finnish pop star in a nightclub at a private event about two weeks ago.

Previous social media clips showed Ms. Marin, who at 36 years old is one of the world’s youngest leaders, playing in front of the camera and dancing with friends.

According to Finnish site Iltalehti, one of the people in the video is said to be shouting a slang term for cocaine.

One video shows six people dancing and imitating a song in front of the camera, including Ms. Marin.

She was later seen kneeling on the dance floor with her arms behind her head while lip-syncing and dancing.

She was previously quoted as saying that she had nothing to hide, that she did not see any drug use during the party and that the videos were only shared within her group.

The party is said to have taken place at a private apartment and several Finnish media personalities have appeared in the clips.

“I’m disappointed that they went public. I spent the evening with friends. Farewell, pretty wild, yes. Dancing and singing,” Finland TV station YLE quoted her as saying.

“I myself do not use drugs, or anything other than alcohol. I danced, sang and attended parties and did things that were completely legal,” added Marin, according to Hufvudstadsbladet newspaper.

Many people in the country have expressed support for the young leader for combining her private life with her peak career.

But critics point out that Finland, which shares an 832-mile land border with Russia, is currently facing problems related to its invasion of Ukraine, including high electricity prices.

It recently applied to join NATO after it abandoned its neutral stance.

And the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper said the party raised questions about her judgment.

“Marin may have acted in good faith, but she shouldn’t have been gullible,” the newspaper wrote in an editorial.

In a sensitive situation, the Prime Minister could put the weapons of information warfare into the hands of those who want to hurt Finland.
