Film Friday: ‘Photography through the Pandemic’ showcases the work of cinematographers worldwide during the COVID-19 pandemic: Digital photography review

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected nearly every aspect of daily life globally. While there’s no denying the hardships and losses nearly everyone on the planet has endured during the past two tumultuous years, Hamish Gill, 35mmc founder, would like to showcase his work. film photographers who have gone on to create a global pandemic. What he and his collaborator, Holly Gillman, come up with is Photography through the pandemic, a book that showcases the images and words of 49 different photographers from around the world who have been creatively inspired over the past year and a half.

Gill said Photography through the pandemic is a look at the ‘multiple ways in which the Pandemic has affected photographers from around the world and from all different backgrounds. ‘ But it’s not just about photography. Gill says the book ‘is about shared experiences; the different ways we as humans deal with crises and how we learn to cope as individuals. personal.’ He also says it’s ‘the power of creativity as a coping mechanism and can even be seen as an important document – through words and pictures – capturing a moment. etched in human history that should not, or at least should not, be forgotten for decades to come.’

The pictures and words in the book come from a variety of artists around the world, representing different cultures, races, genders and backgrounds. Although the book was a special project for Gill and his associates, it took on an even deeper meaning following the news that John Whitemore, a respected member of the film photography world who went by the name ‘TheDarkShed’ on social media, has passed away. In honor of Whitemore and his contributions to the film photography community, Gill dedicated this book to John. He will be the 50th contributor to the book and all profits from the book will go to the charities Whitemore supports in life and a trust fund for his young daughter, Harriet .

Photography through the pandemic It’s currently funded on Kickstarter, where it’s about 70% past its $16,000 goal through commitment from over 190 backers. There are 36 days left to start the campaign and a £25/$35 pledge, plus shipping, you’ll receive a unique copy of the book. The first books are expected to be delivered in February 2022.
