Fernando Martinez beat Jerwin Ancajas by wide decision again
Fernando Martinez’s win over Jerwin Ancajas in February was clearly unlucky,
The Argentine, who took Ancajas’ £115 title by one-sided decision in a memorable brawl eight months ago, left the ring with a similar result in a rematch at the Sebastian Fundora-Carlos Stadium. Ocampo on Saturday in Carson, California.
The official scores are 119-109, 118-110 and 118-110. Boxing Junkie also scored it 118-110, 10 innings left.
“This is about confirming the first fight,” Martinez said. “I trained really hard for this fight. I have so many people to thank and this is for my dad in heaven. “
Ancajas (33-3-2, 22 KOs) had some early success in the skirmish using his fleet movement and boxing skills to stop Martinez’s relentless rampage.
By round 4 or 5, however, he started to slow down and Martinez took his place, beating his more experienced Filipino opponent for the rest of the run.
Therefore, the scores are one-way.
Now, Martinez can focus on other bantamweight titleholders, Juan Francisco Estrada, Joshua Franco and Kazuto Ioka, or top contenders Jessie Rodriguez or Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez.
“Definitely it’s harder to stay hungry and maintain the title but now we’re chasing ‘Chocolatito’ and others in the division are getting in my way.”
Ancajas, 30, said he struggled to earn £115 for his first game against Martinez. Maybe that’s another problem for the rematch.
He’ll probably gain up to 118 pounds for the next one.
