FDA investigates potentially strawberry-linked hepatitis A outbreak: NPR

The FDA and other agencies are investigating an outbreak of hepatitis A in the US and Canada that may have been linked to fresh organic strawberries.
The agency said the strawberries were sold under the FreshKampo and HEB brands and were purchased between March 5 and April 25.
The FDA is investigating 17 cases — 15 in California and one in Minnesota and North Dakota. of Canada public health agency 10 cases have been identified in two provinces: Alberta and Saskatchewan.
HEB and FreshKampo strawberries are on sale at number of retailersincluding Trader Joe’s, Kroger, Safeway, Aldi, Walmart and HEB, according to the FDA.
“If you are unsure about the brand you purchased, when to buy the strawberries, or where to buy them before freezing, throw the strawberries away,” the FDA said.
In one statement on its website, HEB says that all strawberries sold in its stores are safe. The grocery chain on Sunday said it had “not received or sold organic strawberries from the supplier under investigation since April 16.”
The FDA recommends that strawberry eaters it is investigating should consult their healthcare providers if they have not been vaccinated against hepatitis A. Fever, dark urine, Jaundice, fatigue and nausea are among the symptoms of an infection.
“If a consumer purchased fresh organic strawberries branded FreshKampo or HEB between March 5, 2022 and April 25, 2022, ate those strawberries in the past two weeks and hasn’t been vaccinated. prevent hepatitis A, they should consult a healthcare professional immediately,” the FDA said.
