The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is the headline of this week’s news, and while many of the presentations and launches go virtual, it’s covered some important electric vehicle news.

On Wednesday, GM revealed Chevrolet Silverado EV. used as a bed, along with a highly reconfigurable tailgate. Some versions will accelerate to 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds and achieve a range of up to 400 miles, while others will start at a base price of $39,900 — eventually. .

As part of the same presentation — and arguably larger reveal — was the release of the first photos of 2024 Chevy Equinox EV. GM says it will have a starting price of around $30,000, cutting through the current versions of the Mach-E, Ioniq 5 and ID.4 — and half that of the Model Y.

The show also marks the unveiling of Mercedes’ EQXX concept, which boasts a 621-mile real-world range — along with a host of production technology and design details. We took a look technology makes EQXX remarkable, then, we tracked down a technology most automakers have shied away from: passive (air) cooling. For EVs with no emphasis on performance, maybe air freshener is the future?

Chrysler revealed Airflow concept, representing a new look for the brand that is expected to go into production around 2025. With the brand considering an all-electric lineup as early as 2028, executives also emphasized to us that this is an opportunity to completely remake an “icon in American car history.”

And just before the show, it came up with a complete setup, slated to be used in a “new entry vehicle” in 2022 — but not the Fisker Ocean — but will increase range up to 30%.
