On Tuesday, Apple unveiled a bunch of new devices, including the new iPhone SE with 5G, a new version of the iPad Air and Mac Studio, a brand new desktop PC with a powerful new processor. Apple made all of these announcements in a pre-recorded presentation that oddly didn’t mention the ongoing battle between the two. iPhone SE 5G
Anyone who loves iPhones with a physical home button will be delighted to see the refreshed iPhone SE. Not much has changed since then 2020 update to the smallest, cheapest iPhone. This time, Apple has stuffed the A15 Bionic processor inside, the same processor found inside. iPhone 13 model. That means the low-end iPhone model is about as capable as the super-expensive iPhones, and Apple says the chip allows for better battery life. The SE also has a 12-megapixel main camera, allowing for the same features that were introduced on mainstream iPhones, like Photo Style and Deep Combing. Oddly, the new iPhone SE does not support the MagSafe accessory system. Apple introduced MagSafe with iPhone 12, allowing you to attach magnetic accessories like wireless chargers, wallets, and battery packs to the back of your phone. (Don’t worry, you can still charge this iPhone wirelessly.) Everything else about it is more or less the same, from the 4.7-inch LCD screen and IP67 water resistance to the home button with Touch ID. It comes in three colors: midnight, starlight and Product (Red). Pre-orders will open this Friday and it will go on sale March 18 for $429.

M1 Ultra Chip
To make its chipset naming convention more confusing, Apple is adding another processor to its M1 series and calling it M1 Ultra. It’s alongside the M1, M1 Pro and M1 Max. The design is interesting, as it is essentially two M1 Max chips joined together using a dead technology that Apple calls UltraFusion. According to Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, John Ternus, the M1 Ultra offers a ridiculous 128 GB of graphics memory and has seven times more transistors than the base M1 chip. —Boone Ashworth
Mac Studio
The biggest curveball at Apple’s spring event was the announcement of a new desktop computer called the Mac Studio. It looks like a deluxe Mac Mini, twice as tall, a big silver block 4 inches tall. It has ports for days, including four Thunderbolt ports, two USB-A slots, an HDMI port, and a headphone jack on the back. On the front are two USB-C ports and an SD card slot. Wi-Fi and bluetooth are built in. Apple says you can output the display to four XDR monitors and 4K TVs at the same time. Mac Studio can be configured with the new M1 Max or the new M1 Ultra chip.
