Evan Engram, Jaguars Agree to Pre-Extend Franchise Cards
Evan Engram be in Jacksonville for the foreseeable future.
Tight End has agreed to a three-year deal with Jaguar, his agent Mike McCartney announced on Sunday. The deal is worth $41.25 million over the life of the contract, with $24 million fully guaranteed, ESPN reported. The deal will make Engram the sixth highest paid company on an annual basis and the ninth highest paid out of all companies by total value, by Ben Arthur of FOX Sports.
Engram received a franchise card from the Jaguars earlier in the season, which would give him $11.345 million guaranteed for the 2023 season, but also leave him without a contract next year. The renewal also comes just before Monday’s deadline for players with franchise cards to sign multi-year contracts with their current teams. After the expiration of 4 p.m. ET on Monday, players with franchise cards can’t negotiate multi-year contracts with their teams until the season ends.
Tony Pollard, Saquon Barkley And Josh Jacobs are the only players on the franchise card that still don’t have a deal.
Engram – who was selected in the first round in 2017 – enjoyed a career year in his first season in Jacksonville. His 73 touchdowns for 766 yards are all personal bests, and he also made four touchdowns, helping Trevor Lawrence breakthrough in his second season. The deal will keep Engram, who turns 29 in September, with Lawrence until the end of the 2025 season.
Before signing a one-year, $9 million contract with the Jaguars last season, Engram played the first five seasons of his career with the Jaguars. New York Giants. Engram had a strong rookie season, scoring 64 contacts for 722 yards and six touchdowns. He failed to hit those numbers in any of the other four seasons he played in New York, ending with just 408 ball picks in his final season with the team in year 2021.
