When was the last time you took the bus to school?? It’s been a minute for me, but it doesn’t look like they’ve changed that much in over a decade since I last jumped in one. But that could be about to change, as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will pay schools across the US to get rid of aging diesel-powered buses for solutions. cleaner alternative.
This week, the EPA opened submissions for Clean school bus programwill fund schools across the United States to get rid of their old diesel buses and replace them with models that run on natural gas or electricity.
Schools can now apply for up to $375,000 to replace their inefficient diesel buses. In each case, schools must purchase a fully operational bus, which will then be scrapped under the scheme. So counties can’t cut old buses that don’t run favor something new and shiny.
Any buses removed as part of the program must be 2010 or older, must weigh 10,001 lbs or more and must serve the public school at least three days per week.

Schools that then replace these models with electric buses will receive $375,000. Those who choose compressed natural gas-powered buses can get up to $40,000, and those switching to propane-powered models can get up to $30,000.
Any school that chooses electric buses can also apply for up to $20,000 to support electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
Buses purchased under this program must serve school districts for at least five years. They must also be from 2021 or later, weighing more than 10,001 lbs and cannot be pre-ordered has been selected for funding.
