GM’s first all-electric Chevy pickup truck will offer an estimated 400-mile range when it arrives next year, with a base model arriving later for $39,900, the company confirmed when revealed the truck at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on Wednesday.
The truck was revealed in coordination with a keynote address from CEO Mary Barra at the show. The automaker has also announced pre-orders for the electric van starting today.
The Silverado EV will be able to tow up to 10,000 pounds, with a payload of up to 1,300 pounds. It’s built with the same “structural sandwich” approach as the GMC Hummer EV, with independent front and rear suspension plus adaptive air suspension that allows two inches of ride height to be raised or lowered.

Instead of the Hummer EV’s Watts To Freedom (WTF), the Silverado EV goes with Wide Open Watts (WOW), allowing “up to 664 hp with over 780 lb-ft of torque” from a enabling two-motor system All-wheel drive and 0-60 mph time under 4.5 seconds.
The ability to quickly charge up to 350 kw over 800 volts, as GM claims, puts the electric Silverado in the more advanced position of rapid DC charging, allowing it to recover about 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
There will be two battery packs for the truck, but information so far is scant on the two smaller ones and based on hints from executives, its range is expected to be over 200. miles but not more than 300 miles.

Inside, the Silverado EV offers good enough seating for those over 6 meters tall in the backseat, GM said. The so-called Multi-Flex Midgate increases the length of the bed by 5 feet 11 to more than 9 feet when it is open. Both are included with the RST First Edition, along with a tonneau case that features a fully lockable and weather-resistant compartment.
Two versions of the Silverado EV will be offered — a well-equipped RST First Edition and a fleet WT version. The RST First Edition will have a wide range of features, including four-wheel steering, adaptive air suspension and the so-called Flexible Multi-Middle Door.
When optional, the electric truck will offer a PowerBase system with up to 10 power outlets and a total of 10.2 kW of off-board power – a number that beats Ford’s 9.6 kW. GM says it also supports charging for another EV, though the company hasn’t released details on a coordinated home energy system like that will be offered with the F-150 Lightning.

For the flagship RST First Edition guise, the Silverado EV won’t be much lower than the Hummer EV’s $112,595 in Edition 1 form. The RST First Edition starts at $105,000 plus destination. GM says that, like the Hummer EV, versions will range from a base price of $39,900 and up, but don’t expect those models to be available in the first place.
GM says the first deliveries in spring 2023 will be for the WT version with the largest battery, so be prepared for sticker pricing to start around the middle.
The company also did not provide any details on what kind of production it is aiming for for the electric Chevy pickup. Ford earlier this week pushed its annual target for the F-150 Lightning to 150,000 units per year, and then plans a new truck on a dedicated EV platform that should arrive by mid-decade, for “extremely loud.”
The Silverado EV will be built alongside the Hummer EV at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck plant, which has been renamed Factory Zero and tasked with EV production.
