Like most people, Eddy Reynoso was amazed at the physical specimen that was Anthony Joshua.

The former unified heavyweight champion stands at a towering 6’6” and possesses the same 240-pound frame as the Greek gods. However, despite his impressive physique, Joshua has been on a losing streak over the past few years.

In 2019, the England international was knocked down four times before finally losing the heavyweight title to Andy Ruiz Jr through the seventh round. Although Joshua will go on to beat Ruiz Jr in their immediate rematch and score a violent knockout victory over Kubrat Pulev in December 2020, the now 32-year-old has suffered a decisive defeat. determined in his only ring appearance in 2021 against Oleksandr Usyk.

Reynoso, a former multi-year coach and weight star leader Canelo Alvarez, believes Joshua is incredibly talented. However, Reynoso can also see holes in the former champions’ game.

“Work longer distances, better combinations,” Reynoso said, listing the things Joshua has to improve on in an interview with Fight Hub TV. “He has a lot of good traits, good physicality, but he doesn’t take advantage of them.”

Joshua, a former 2012 Olympic gold medalist, believes that with a win over his then must-have opponent, the next step for him will be an undisputed showdown with current WBC champion, Tyson Fury.

While Joshua still dreams of becoming an undisputed elite shooter, he will first find a way to regain his championship status. Immediately after the defeat, Joshua boarded his first flight to the states and began exploring different boxing gyms while talking to various trainers. Among them was Reynoso.

Currently, the highly regarded trainer has a professional boxing cast including Alvarez, Ruiz Jr., Frank Sanchez, Ryan Garcia and Oscar Valdez.

Admittedly Reynoso revealed that he would be willing to bring Joshua by his side and prepare him for a rematch against Usyk. Although their new partnership is not yet solidified, Reynoso seems willing to lend Joshua a hand.

“I enjoyed working with Joshua, why not? My job is to train boxers and I’ll see if I can make it work. It was a question of the timing of the next war. We’ve talked to Eddie Hearn and Joshua’s manager and we’ll see what happens.”
