Eddie Hearn wants to bring famous lightweight star Ryan Garcia to the UK.
Garcia returned to the ring on Saturday night after a 15-month break when he faced Ghana’s Emmanuel Tagoe (32-1, 15 KOs) in San Antonio.
If the Americans are undefeated against Tagoe then attention will turn to the future. However, the possibility of a fight at 135 lbs in the near future seems far-fetched given his opponents are already tied in their next bouts. George Kambosos will face Devin Haney for the undisputed lightweight world championship in June. Gervonta Davis faces Rolly Romero next month and Vasiliy Lomachenko is currently in Ukraine to help his country battle it out. with the Russian invasion.
However, Hearn had an idea for Ryan Garcia’s next fight and reached out to the promoters of ‘KingRy’ Golden Boy and spoke to company President Eric Gomez.
“I called Eric Gomez the day before and said bring Ryan Garcia to the UK,” Hearn told the DAZN Boxing Show.
“We have a young boxer named Maxi Hughes who won the IBO world title against Straffon, who defended it against Ryan Walsh. I want to give this kid a chance. Go and do a big outdoor event in Yorkshire, bring Ryan Garcia, it’s going to be wild.
“For me once he gets past Tagoe, they have to keep him active. You have to keep this young man at the gym especially while you are waiting for the big fights to happen. We knew Devin would have to play Kambosos again in Australia if he wins. It’s Devin in this year’s picture. If Kambosos wins, he will fight Lomachenko. So really, all the belts are tight this year. You’ve got Gervonta Davis fighting at the end of May so he won’t be ready until September/October.
“Take Ryan Garcia out for the summer. We have a few lighters for him and Maxi Hughes, and I’d love to give them a chance. ”
