Eddie Hearn Says Taylor-Serano 2 Won’t Happen
By: Sean Crose
“A potential Croke Park rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano has been ruled out this year,” wrote Irish Times, “After the promoter of the Irish boxer, Eddie Hearn, suggested that Camp Serrano decline the offer to fight a second fight.” If This News Is True – And Who Knows When It Comes To The Sport Of Boxing? – then Ireland, and fighting fans across the globe, will miss out on a much-anticipated match. The first fight between Taylor and Serrano, which took place at New York’s Madison Square Garden last spring, was a classic, one that Taylor took down with a decisive victory. Most would agree that a rematch is definitely in order.
According to Hearn, however, Team Serrano didn’t care. The Serrano team themselves have not weighed in on the matter publicly, but when major skirmishes fail, there is a tendency to point fingers at both sides. “Unfortunately, they didn’t want that fight,” Hearn said of Team Serrano — led by Jake Paul — with Professional boxing fan. “I mean we talked to Jake Paul’s team and they didn’t really want to go to Ireland. They don’t really want the rematch. It’s kind of like, no matter what the offer is, we don’t want a rematch.”
Disappointing news for fight fans, especially female boxing fans, who really benefited from Taylor-Serrano’s first bout. All the old arguments that a women’s boxing match couldn’t compete with a men’s boxing match went up in smoke in the epic showdown between Taylor of Ireland and Serrano of Puerto Rico. There’s no doubt that over the next five or six months, the showdown will be a serious contender of the year – and totally worth it. Of course, this makes news of the rematch even harder for fans to swallow.
With all of that in mind, UFC great Chris Cyborg has reported that she’s ready to step into the ring with Taylor. “I’m willing to sit down and talk to Eddie whenever he’s ready,” Cyborg said Irish Mirror. “He has mentioned my name in the media a few times now, but for me, I am very serious about boxing and if he is serious he wants to be my promoter. I would love to talk to him.” The world may have seen too many UFC-Boxing hybrids (they usually happen in the ring, which usually means the boxer wins), but if Serrano does show up, Taylor-Cyborg could be. garner some attention. lost in Taylor’s next fight.
