Raising the standard of road riding in Malaysia is Ducati Malaysia Ducati Riding Experience (DRE) organized the DRE Road class. Attended by both Ducati riders and enthusiasts of the brand, the Road class aims to teach motorcycle handling skills to the everyday rider.
This is in contrast to the DRE Track class, which is a very intense and hyper-focused day-long session that teaches the finer points of track riding and manual racing. For DRE Road, takes riders from the very basics of riding, emphasizing safety and defense while riding.
Costing RM500, DRE Road is a one-day course open to all riders, regardless of motorcycle type. Participants on the day will be offered a range of Ducati motorcycles, including the Scrambler and Monster models, along with the Desert-X utility vehicle, as well as the Hypermotard and Streetfighter.
During the lesson, riders are taught the importance of riding position and its impact on motorcycle control and handling, as well as visibility and the ability to stay on target. While it now sounds like something basic that every rider should do, it’s surprising how many riders, both old and new, take things like this for granted.
After an hour of class, participants are taken to a specially organized course. Divided into three parts, the exercises performed here emphasize bike handling, braking and low-speed control, for example turning.
With participants divided into three groups, led by a certified DRE instructor, each group will be walked through the sections. A benefit of DRE Road is small class sizes and personal attention and instruction.
They are given multiple opportunities to perform drills and participants are allowed to repeat at their request or as directed to hone and perfect their newly learned skills. Ducati Malaysia plans to hold a number of DRE Road sessions across Malaysia in the coming months, while those interested in participating can register their interest with Ducati Malaysia or their nearest Ducati Malaysia dealer.
