Ducati 1-2 on the opening day of WorldSBK in Mandalika
MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship 2023
Round Two – Mandalika, Indonesia
WorldSBK FP2
The track temperature was up to 52 degrees while FP2 was in progress this afternoon at Mandlika but the track was much cleaner than the track morning session and riders immediately improve their morning markers.
Jonathan Rea was the first to reach 1m33 and he did it in just a few minutes in the session.
Fallers in FP2 include Alvaro Bautista and Iker Lecuona.
It was not until later in the session that the drivers started to drop in 1m32s, the first of which was taken by Toprak Razgatlioglu but in the dying minutes Turk was replaced first by Alvaro Bautista, and then there was Michal Rinaldi, who eventually topped the session with 1m32,468. That compares with Toprak’s lap record of 1m32,162 and Superpole’s record of 1m31,371, both set here last year.
Jonathan Rea finished fourth day fastest ahead of Michael van der Mark, while Remy Gardner had a great opening day finishing in P6 ahead of Alex Lowes and Andrea Locatelli.
Bautista topped the speed chart with a speed of 294.3 km / h ahead of Xavi Vierge with a speed of 292.7 km / h on Honda. This lap is not particularly fast so the gap in top speed is not too wide but it is worth noting that the fastest Yamaha is 14th in the speed traps.

WorldSSP FP2
The Mandalika lap was more exciting this afternoon despite the hotter racetrack temperatures. Much of the dirt was cleared from the circuit after the opening practice of World Superbike.
Even so, conditions remained difficult as both Apiwath Wongthananon and Tarran Mackenzie fell prematurely, both unhurt.
Stefano Manzi went down late in the session after setting pace for most of the session but the final minutes he missed cost him dearly as the Italian shuffled his order down to P5 at the time the checkered flag appeared.
Nicolo Bulega once again came out on top when it was important to top Friday ahead of Can Oncu and Niko Tuuli. Marcel Schroetter P4 leads Manzi, leaving it with five different manufacturers in the top five; Ducati, Kawasaki, Triumph, MV Agusta and Yamaha.
Oli Bayliss had several laps canceled due to yellow flags and also exceeded the track limit, the teenager finishing Friday just 1.5 seconds above Friday’s benchmark.
