One unfortunate aspect of being a pet parent is that you are more likely to outlive them. The day we had to say goodbye was a day we all dreaded. But why not make it the best day possible, for both you and your kids, by doing all your favorite things together one last time?
That’s exactly what Baxter’s mother did, and her video of their last day together went viral.
If you’ve ever raised a dog to be your everything, you’ll be hard pressed to do so over video or maybe even this post without shedding tears. Our dogs are our faithful companions through our best and worst days, so even imagining a time we will have to live without them. You may also feel emotional.
The video begins with Ellie, Baxter’s mother, and the rest of her pups hugging Baxter in love. It’s clear from the scene of his last day that there are lots of hugs and kisses. In the next clip, Ellie holds a brown McDonald’s bag as she feeds Baxter a sandwich. On the screen was the words, “McDonald’s Last Breakfast”.
The couple then went for a walk to a nearby store to get some meat. Baxter happily wagged his tail as his mother shared some slices with him, and they ate ham together. After their snack, they lay down for more cuddles as the adorable Sher Pei licked her chopsticks.
It’s sweet to watch a fluffy sibling join Baxter for an extra afternoon nap together. Then, for the first time, Baxter tasted a previously banned food, as “First time trying naughty pastry” displayed on the video. At first he hesitated, but then he would handle it. He washed it off with a tea stain straight out of the cup.
After that, they took the last bus together. Two pairs of hands caressed Baxter as they traveled, and he looked very affectionate between them. In the final clip of the video, a beautiful sunset stretches across the sky. It even comes with a beautiful rainbow. The words “Off over the rainbow” were typed on the screen.
No matter how long they live, it will never feel enough. Twelve years with Baxter passed in the blink of an eye. Our pups became our best friends, and even when they’re gone, we still love them.
What a wonderful day Ellie gave her sweet little boy Baxter. We know that he will always be missed and have been greatly missed.
