Dog Dad Pens Emotional poem from the perspective of his belated dog

Dogs are not just pets. They are companions, family members and loved ones. Many people spend more time adventuring with their dogs than with many people in their lives, so the loss of a furry friend is more heartbreaking than we could have anticipated.

Alec Longhurst has a special connection with a Border Terrier named Ted. The two will go for walks in some of the most beautiful places in the UK, including The Leasowes park in Halesowen. On their hikes, they witnessed some of the most enchanting plants and animals, so they shared their experiences with the world.

Let’s explore the world together

Alec and Ted have become local celebrities during the COVID-19 lockdown. During his two daily walks, Alec will take beautiful pictures of the plants and animals they see and share them on social media. People love this duo because they carry some beauty in tough times.

Ted is known around the area as “The Leasowes Dog” because of his frequent trips to the fascinating park. The BBC even captured Alec and Ted walking.

Sadly, Ted was diagnosed with skin cancer in March 2021 and has only three months to live. However, despite all the difficulties, he continued to go strong until October 2022, when he passed away at around 14 years old. Alec was heartbroken, but he was grateful he had more time with his furry friend.

In honor of Ted, Alec wrote an emotional poem from the puppy’s point of view. He posted it in the “Friends of the Leasowes” Facebook group so anyone who follows Ted’s story can see it.

A poem for Ted

Here is the poem that Alec posted:

“There is a place,

Pretty close to me,

Called Leasowes Park,

With many things to see.

That’s where I walked,

In 15 years,

With parents,

Today in tears.

My time has come,

No more robbery calls,

Or dad throws,

My blue ball.

I chased the rabbits,

So are the squirrels,

I have seen the Kingfisher,

With that blue patch!

The green macaws,

With that weird cry,

And that big scary bird,

Called Harris Hawk.

The heron is,

My favorite,

Happy to sit,

There are no signs of fishing.

I love the seasons,

Spring I searched,

Bluebells and wild garlic,

Such beauty it brings.

I love snow,

When I get wet,

And I especially love it.

Orange sunset.

I hear woodpeckers,

And buzzards too,

Mothers with ducklings,

Really cotton and new.

In Stennels Pond,

I used to push my ball,

Trapped in lily pads,

Not fun.

I can’t get out,

I have begun to drown,

Mom was panicking,

Dad frowned.

But he stripped naked,

And swim after me,

He was very wet,

It’s funny to watch.

I like fox,

He is my size,

With a nice coat,

And beautiful eyes.

I will lie with my father,

Sometimes in his heart,

mushroom discovery,

And the quirky wax cap.

Longhorn cattle,

It’s fun,

They will come to me,

And sniff my beggar.

I swam and splashed,

In the pool,

And drink from the steps,

When I need to rest.

But now is my time,

Finished,

I waste,

I am everyone’s friend.

If you sit next to Stennels,

Just admire the scenery,

‘Cause I’ll be nearby,

Look over you! “
