Does your location impact your coffee of choice?

It’s no secret that the world is full of avid coffee drinkers, with those who can’t start their daily routine without a mug of freshly brewed coffee. But does where we live affect the choice of coffee we pour into our cups?

A recent study conducted by Casumo, of what the most popular cup of coffee was in different parts of the world, got us thinking about if our surroundings really do affect the coffee we order in shops, or the type of coffee we brew at home.

With this in mind, we want to show you the top coffees as voted for by people around the world, to see if where you find yourself in the world right now, has influenced what’s inside your coffee cup.

The top coffees include latte, cappuccino, black coffee, flat white, espresso and mocha – but what’s the difference between them all?

Latte – A tall cup filled with a shot of espresso, topped with steamed milk of a 1:3 ratio, and a small amount of foam on top.

Cappuccino – A cup comprised of equal parts espresso, milk and foam, with a ratio of 1:1:1.

Black Coffee – Seen as a no-fuss cup, a black coffee is made by brewing coffee however you like it – whether that be via a French press, a drip, a pour-over or even instant coffee – you add nothing else to it, apart from sugar if you take it.

Flat White – With a ratio of 1:2 of espresso to milk, the flat white is stronger than a latte but milkier than a cappuccino.

Espresso – The strongest of all coffees, an espresso is created by forcing near-boiling water through the finely grounded coffee beans, most commonly via a coffee machine, creating an almost coffee concentrate. This can be drunk as is or added to create the basis of other drinks found on this list.

Mocha – For those who cannot decide between a hot chocolate and a cup of coffee, a mocha is an espresso-based drink with chocolate and whipped cream instead of the usual milk froth foam. The perfect ratio of coffee, to milk to chocolate differs from coffee shop to coffee shop, or house to house if making it at home, but is always finished off with a dusting of chocolate powder or sauce.

Knowing a little more about what each cup contains, can you guess what the most popular cup of coffee is around the world?

60% of the world enjoy a cappuccino over any other coffee type on the menu, with countries such as – the United States of America, the Bahamas, India, Papua New Guinea, Iceland, Spain, France, Saudi Arabia, Denmark, the Netherlands and Switzerland – just to name a few.

However, for readers finding themselves in the UK, the most popular cup of coffee is actually a flat white. According to the research results, the United Kingdom joins countries such as Ireland, Argentina, Germany and Poland in ordering a flat white, making up 7% of the world’s population.

So, does your coffee order match your location?
