Dodge Challenger can be downsized turbo-six in line

Avoid confirmed plans to phase out the V8 and a new report sheds light on how it hopes to keep the next generation The Challenger interesting despite the size reduction. The coupe is said to launch a twin-turbo inline-six with the same horsepower as the Hemi.

Cite anonymous sources, websites StellaPower wrote that the 3.0-liter engine was internally referred to as the GME-T6. It should have been announced at this point, as previous reports have stated that New Jeep Grand Cherokee will open it, but problems with vibration and noise are thought to have delayed its introduction. It is now scheduled to make its debut in The Next Challenger, which is expected to launch in 2023 as a 2024 model.

Enthusiastic site Muscle cars & trucks speculates that, in its standard configuration, the straight six would at least match the 372-horsepower rating of the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 while delivering more torque than the 400-pound output- foot of its larger brother. Some degree of mixture support could push the six’s output to somewhere in the 700-hp range, which would allow Dodge to replace the 6.2-liter Hellcat V8. According to the same report, rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants will be available, but the naturally aspirated 6 will not be offered.

Other cars, vans, and SUVs in the Stellantis portfolio will also receive the GME-T6 engine; it’s reasonable to assume that, if it shows up in the next Challenger, it will also end up in the next Charger. However, keep in mind that none of this is official: endorsed by Dodge It’s a it needs to destroy the V8 observance of opacity emissions regulations and the turbocharged Hellcat V8 engine will be discontinued after 2023.

Enthusiasts not interested in a muscle car equipped with a downsized engine need to act relatively quickly. Avoid Note in August 2021 that what it calls a “new platform” will launch in 2024 and current generation cars will retire soon after. We know yes an electric car on the horizon, but details are scarce and it’s too early to say if it’s related to the Next Challenger or if it will be marketed as a standalone model. Additional details on the company’s future plans will be released before the end of 2022.
