Dillian Whyte changes coach to return
Dillian Whyte is looking to return to the top of the heavyweight rankings after a knockout loss to Tyson Fury in April.
Ahead of his return, Whyte took to Instagram to announce a major change in the team – namely, Hall of Fame boxer turned coach Buddy McGirt. He has trained the likes of Arturo Gatti and Hasim Rahman, and is currently working with former champion, Callum Smith.
McGirt took corner duty away from Harold Knight and Xavier Miller, who had trained Whyte together for a winning rematch with Alexander Povetkin and an unsuccessful attempt to win the world championship against Fury.
When announcing the change on Instagram, ‘The Bodysnatcher’ says he’s learned day one and is ready to ‘level up’.
The split with Knight and Miller followed a 6order round-robin defeat to Fury at Wembley – a match that Whyte has campaigned for for years. After the short bout with Fury, he’ll be looking to climb back up towards another title shot, and have Many interesting matches will be made on the way there.
For a while, it remained unclear who would push Brixton’s return to the ring. He has previously worked with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom on a one-on-one basis, and there have been discussions about a move to BOXXER and Sky Sports in the future.
Hearn has now spoken to Boxing Social on the return of heavyweights, confirm that Matchroom will dominate, and discuss potential opponents for a targeted November 26 at Wembley Arena.
“Similar to the kind of opponent he would fight against Tyson Fury. Otto Wallin, Jermaine Franklin, even Demsey McKean – he’s going to have a war in Australia. Chris Arreola, you know, those levels. I think he has to come back for a real fight. Partnered with Buddy McGirt right now and we’ll be working to try to get Dillian’s fight up and running over the next few days. “
With a date not far away and a new training camp officially beginning, fans won’t have to wait long to find out more details about Whyte’s return to a stacked weight class.
