Give heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte this – he’s determined not to let WBC and online heavyweight champion Tyson Fury get in his head before the two men meet on April 23. What other reason, one might wonder, perhaps Whyte avoided Tuesday’s press conference for the heavyweight title fight? Unless, of course, Whyte 28-2 is upset over contract for next month’s game. “Now he’s trying to renegotiate,” Fury promoter Frank Warren told media gathered. “That’s why it took us a while to agree on the terms! That’s where we have to go. One of the things is that he wants a private jet to take him to and from today. But yesterday we said we would do it. Then they started adding other things to it.”
Warren even said Whyte didn’t want his face on the fight poster. However, Fury, being Fury, still ends up eating up all the energy in the room, as does his tendency. “I don’t care,” said the defending champion. “This is the Tyson Fury Roadshow. Next stop is London. It is never about the opponent. Whether it’s his face on it (the battle poster) or someone else’s, it really doesn’t matter. Stepping closer to Whyte on stage, the boxer dubbed the “King of Gypsy” jumped at the opportunity to shoot the challenger’s way. “It’s ugly anyway,” he said of Whyte’s cuteness, “we should take it down.”
But the towering British weren’t done. “It’s about this man here,” he said, pointing out his looks on stage, “and celebrating his legacy and boxing career, and celebrating on the biggest stage. that the world can have, really. It doesn’t matter if it’s Dillian Whyte, Joe Joyce, Derek Chisora, Anthony Joshua, Usyk, it doesn’t really matter. Wherever it will stop next, it will always be the Tyson Fury Roadshow. ”
Fury continues to show that he is as confident as he is self-aware. “I am very confident,” he said. “Very confident. People say, ‘Oh, he’s a friend on Earth.’ I’m not a man down to Earth. I am a top person in the world. I’m an all or nothing kind of guy. If I was training for a battle, I believe I would win it a billion percent. “Sure, Fury claims that he will definitely wreak havoc on Whyte when they meet this spring in London.
“There’s not even one percent doubt that I won’t destroy Dillian Whyte,” he claimed. “Even when I was a heavy underdog, I never doubted that I was losing. That is my greatest asset, my confidence. At this point, at the end of my career, a long time ago, I’m almost 34 years old, I’ll never, never let that go away from me. I must be extremely confident in my own abilities. I believe I can beat Dillian Whyte with one hand tied behind my back and one foot on the floor.”
