ANDY DOMINGUEZ (7-0.5 KO) looks a lot like a rising star, and he’ll look to keep his cool as he defends his WBA Fedecentro flyweight title on Thursday night.

  • Dominguez was originally from the Mexico City area, but he wasn’t a city boy, describing himself as a farm kid. He moved to the Bronx at age ten, and says he was so picked up by his classmates that it got him into a number of skirmishes. So his mother took him to a gym at the age of 13, and he has been active in sports ever since.
  • He had 59 amateur fights, and won three New York Golden Glove championships.
  • His professional debut came in August 2020, with a four-round decision in place of Jonathan Correa Alamo. The only opponent left in the gap with him was Ivan Vasquez last November.
  • On March 26, he knocked out Jeronil Borres with a shot to the body in the first round. In his next match, on May 14, he stopped Edwin Reyes in the 4th round to win the WBA Fedecentro flyweight belt, which he was vacant at the time.
  • Currently, Dominguez is ranked 14th in the world by the World Boxing Association in the world flyweight category.
  • He works after a very good throw, and is known to be a good finisher.
  • Still keeps his Bronx relationship, but he trains in Las Vegas.
  • He has expressed that one of the reasons he wants to be a world champion is “to have a platform to help and inspire others”.
  • Weight: 110 Pounds

RICARDO CARABALLO (7-1, 2 KOs) hopefully he can start fighting more often and a win over Andy Dominguez on Thursday night could trigger that.

  • Caraballo is a native of Philadelphia, later moving to Riverview, Florida, in the Tampa Bay area.
  • He has a very solid amateur background. Caraballo reached the quarterfinals of the 2006 National Silver Gloves Championship, and then reached the semifinals the following year. He qualified for the 2012 National Golden Glove Championship and lost to Leroy Davila.
  • Caraballo, however, actually lost his professional debut in the decisive four-round match against Angel Carvajal. It will be a year and a half before his rematch, and then another five years before the third fight. A hand injury caused him to derail along the way, as that is always troublesome for a professional boxer.
  • He’s been unbeaten since that loss, though there’s also been no struggle against the undefeated Harold Lopez Sanchez in Atlantic City. Caraballo was accidentally slashed in the butt causing the referee to stop action. Because it didn’t go the required four rounds, no contest had to be ruled.
  • In his last appearance, he scored the winning goal in four innings against Austin Rivas on February 5.
  • Caraballo had a six-round gap once, when he registered decisively over Edwin Reyes in Atlanta. Reyes was the fighter who was defeated by Dominguez to win the WBA Fedecentro belt.
  • Caraballo has weighed in at 118-1/2 pounds, but mostly he’s under 112.
  • Weight: 109.2 Pounds
