For several years, Derek Carr heard whispers about Raiders are considering replacing him.
This topic caused quite a stir last weekend after it was revealed that brave catbefore signing with Tampa . Bay in 2020, is reported interest joined Las Vegas until being shut down by then-coach Jon Gruden. If any of that bothered Carr, he wouldn’t mind that much.
When asked on Tuesday if he had become immune to outside noise, Carr made a smile.
“As of now, I hope so,” Carr said. “I mean, that’s what it is.”
Raiders have flirt with the idea moved from Carr before. Even the structure of his new contract give them the freedom to go on from the Pro Bowler three times after this season, if they want to. Carr had to establish himself under the guidance of freshman coach Josh McDaniels, who happened to be Brady’s longtime coordinator with Patriots.
But with the season set to begin in less than three weeks, the organization’s purported noncompliance with GOAT a few years ago doesn’t seem to concern Carr one bit.
“It really doesn’t matter,” Carr said. “At the end of the day, whatever I say will just get out there, so I’ll completely erase myself and keep trying to play football. It’s great to answer questions about football. And hopefully, no more drama in the city. That’s what I hope.”
Carr, 31, is a staple of the Raiders franchise, serving as a starter for his entire eight-year career while missing just two games. Last year, he completed 68.4% of his passes at his personal best 4,804 yards with 23 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
His personal production has consistently ranked above average among QB1. What’s missing is the team and post-season success. The Raiders made it through 57-70 with Carr, made it to the knockouts only twice, and failed to make it past the Wild-card round. Until they do, the calls to upgrade the club in QB are likely to continue.
