Delay Hits Usyk-Joshua 2, Fight to be repelled
The world heavyweight title rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua will not take place on July 23 according to walkie talkie.
With updates on the time and location for the rematch reported weekly, fans have been patiently waiting for the big announcement. And now it looks like they might have to hold out a little longer.
The story by Gareth A. Davies reveals that broadcasting and location issues are central points as to why the fight will be delayed.
Sky Sports boxing director Adam Smith has frequently told Boxing Social that he fully expects Joshua to sign a new deal with them. The British heavyweight has been a pay-per-view boxer for most of his career and his second fight with Usyk will again take place on Sky Sports Box Office. However, DAZN, which holds international rights to ‘AJ’, means it could take another two or three weeks to resolve these issues, ending any hopes of a July 23 date being met.
With the match taking place in the Middle East, additional time was also needed to complete the construction of the event-specific stadium.
News up to 24 hours after it was revealed that Joshua would announce Robert Garcia as his new coach. The two-time heavyweight champion is looking for a new approach to dethrone Usyk and has timed multiple contenders to replace Robert McCracken, it looks like he’s settled with the 47-year-old former boxer.
