Deauville Legend Set to Take on ‘The Race Which Stops a Nation’

The Melbourne Cup at Flemington Racecourse is one of the most famous races in the world. This year’s contest could have a strong international feel to it, with UK-based Deauville Legend the ante-post favorite to prevail.

James Ferguson’s runner has had just six appearances so far in his career and he has been successful three times, including on his latest start in the Group Two Great Voltigeur Stakes at the Ebor Meeting at York.

If you choose to bet on racing with Paddy Power, you’ll see that Deauville Legend is now +1000 in the for the Melbourne Cup, “the race which stops a nation.” The contest in Australia has become his target as he is not eligible to run in the world’s oldest Classic, the St Leger, as he is a gelding.

The York winner has been one of the popular horse racing betting tips for the Flemington contest, as he has shown he has the stamina for the distance. If he can produce the same level of form as he has in the UK, connections will expect him to be in the mix.

Alfred Boucher Could Join Fellow British Rival in Australia

Ian Williams’ gelding Alfred Boucher is likely to join Deauville Legend in the 2022 Melbourne Cup, as connections of the horse confirmed the race was under consideration following their horse finishing second in the Ebor Handicap.

The six-year-old was denied victory in Britain’s richest staying handicap by just a short head. He lost first place in the final strides to Trawlerman in the 20-runner contest at York back in August.

Since moving to Williams’ yard earlier this year, Alfred Boucher has not been outside of the front two. His sole success came in the Stayers’ Handicap at the Ebor Festival. That victory came just four days before his appearance in the Ebor.

Williams has reported his horse has come out of his busy week at York in good order. He also feels his horse will enjoy the faster ground at Flemington for the Australian handicap contest.

Duais Is the Pick of The Home Challengers This Year

Three-time Group One winner Duais is one of the highest-rated horses in the Melbourne Cup entries this year. She has been successful twice in 2022 at the highest level. She did well in the Australia Cup at Flemington (1m2f) and then came out on top in the Tancred Stakes at Newcastle (1m4f).

Edward Cummings’ mare will be taking on the 2m distance for the first time in her career when she features against some of the best stayers in the world. If she is victorious, it will be the biggest prize of her career.

Cummings is the grandson of the legendary Australian trainer Bart Cummings. Bart won the Melbourne Cup a record 12 times. His first success came in 1965, while his most recent win came in 2008 when Viewed extended his record.

The 2022 Melbourne Cup will be the 162nd renewal of the race. It takes place on November 2, which is a bank holiday in the state of Victoria.
