“It was a good game,” super-middleweight David Benavidez said in an interview with FightHype. “I gave it to both of you. I feel like this fight builds on it more to make my and Caleb’s fight that much more enjoyable. The defeated and undefeated former world player Benavidez was referring to Caleb Plant killing Anthony Dirrell with a single shot last weekend at Brooklyn’s Barclay Center. He also addressed the impact of the knockout with his own prediction match against Plant.

Currently, Benavidez is expected to face Jose Uzcategui in January. If 25-year-old Benavidez proves to be victorious in that endeavor, he hopes that the showdown with Plant will go downhill in the spring. “I think that’s the fight that’s going to happen in May,” Benavidez said in FightHype interview. “It will be a great fight. I feel that the fight will bring out the best for me. I just look forward to it whenever it happens.” A Benavidez-Plant fight would be nothing if not interesting, as it presents a contrast in style that fans can appreciate. Plant, is a fighter, and Benavidez, with a kill rate of almost 90%, is a slugger.

“It’s going to be a damn one hundred percent fight every round. I feel that’s what will ultimately win the matches,” Benavidez said of his style. “I feel like my motivation, stamina and strength will eventually prevail in the fight.” Then again, Plant showed he could turn off the lights on his own last weekend, when a perfectly placed left hook sent twice world title Dirrell down and away on the ninth of the schedule. 12. “It’s not Caleb’s strength that I need to worry about,” Benavidez argued, adding that it was Plant’s slick boxing skills that were of concern to him. “That’s where the problems come in, with me having to catch him and cut off the ring,” he added.

For his part, Plant wants a rematch with Canelo Alvarez, who he performed very well last year before being stopped in thunderous fashion in round 11. Benavidez, though, made his point clear. his own. “The only way to get to Canelo is to get past me,” he insisted. Anyway, Benavidez is the WBC interim super-middleweight champion. “If anyone is going to win the WBC (world) title,” he said, “it’s me.” However, there is concern on Benavidez’s part that boxing politics could stand in his way. “I just hope they don’t try to catch me and put Caleb in the front (of the street facing Canelo),” he said.
