David Benavidez Banks on speed and strength against David Lemieux

David Benavidez believes he has two advantages over David Lemieux going into their fight on Saturday night.

Two super-middleweights battle it out at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona for the WBC Interim title, bringing the winner closer to a fight with undisputed champion Canelo Alvarez.

Benavidez (25-0, 22 KO) revealed that he watched Lemieux (43-4, 36 KOs) when he was young and while the Canadian player may have the experience advantage, he should be worried about the home favourite.

“I really want to get in there and win this title,” Benavidez said at yesterday’s final press conference.

“I have great respect for Lemieux, and I have watched him since I was a child, but he has a lot to worry about with me. I’m faster and stronger, but he’s experienced, so it’s going to be a great fight.

“I am 100% focused on Lemieux. I am focused on the task in front of me. I just need to fight one game at a time. I want to put everything in the fight and calculate the rest later. I know Lemieux is very motivated for this fight, so my mind is 100% on him.

“I can guarantee that there will be a fight, a fight and someone will be taken down. None of us wanted to come to a decision. People are paying big to see the knockout, and that’s what they’re going to get. I’m leaving with the title on Saturday night. ”
