Darrell Brooks was formally received six life sentences of over 700 years in prison on Wednesday after being found guilty of driving a car into a Christmas parade crowd and killing six people and injuring dozens.

Meanwhile, Brooks presented in court for more than two hours, saying he was still trying to understand why the fatal incident happened.

Brooks has represented himself and ended up apologizing only once, adding that no one can see the remorse he feels.
“I want you to know that I’m not only sorry for what happened, but I’m sorry that you can’t see what’s really in my heart, that you can’t see the regret I have,” he said in court. “That you can’t count the tears I’ve shed this year.”

Brooks was charged and released for domestic abuse just weeks before the massacre march
Dorow went on to tell Brooks that “there is no medicine or treatment for a heart that turns to evil.”
Brooks has stated that he intends to appeal his conviction.
