This Friday is known as Black Friday in the US because it is a dark time, when people will literally be killed or killed in a trance to buy cheap TVs. The lowest drop of the year before Cyber Monday casts a light of redemption on the world as hacker kewl d00dz hit the planet. But it delivers cheap video games. GOG kicked off a “Black Friday pre-sale,” with hot deals, including 50% off Disco Elysium and 50% off Cyberpunk 2077. Hmm. Can I recommend it at that price?

GOG sale ends on Monday at 2pm (6am Pacific Time). Yes, a lot of games are second-hand games that are often discounted, but that doesn’t mean they’re still bad. And a 50% discount on Cyberpunk, its biggest sale yet, would tempt me if I hadn’t bought it at launch.
Cyberpunk is still very tough and will likely never get the fundamental changes it needs to be a great game. But it still has a lot of good stuff in it, and better than a lot of the noise it makes. And as someone who grew up on trash and trash megacities, being able to walk around the Night City is a treat. Damn, that’s a looker. You can think of it as an ‘AAA’ walking simulator — a term I hold dear. I have gigabytes on gigabytes of travel photos from the time I was there.
Disco Elysium, ugh, sure, loads of people won’t mind telling you that detective RPGs are great. But do you want a great game? Tsk tsk, where’s the fun in an idyllic time?
