Steve Asmussen joined as owner and coach of first year winner of Darby Dan Farm copper bullet a chubby guy Kani Dong who won the second of his career starting June 16 at Lonely Star Park.
Bryan Henderson bred Copper Kan in Texas in addition to Kantharos Wildwood Kantharos bet winner. The chubby girl was offered for sale at the Texas Thoroughbred Society for 2-Year-Olds in April during the Training Sales, where she was sold for $15,000 to KDE Equine. She was consigned by Diamond C Racing.
Copper Kan made her debut on May 28 at Lone Star Park, where she finished third in the women’s special weight category 4 1/2 long hair. In her second start, she won 1 1/4 of the length at five laps and stopped the chronograph at 1:00.70.
Wildwood Kantharos currently has two winners and performers are placed from three ponies into the race. She’s chubby delivery this year by El Deal .
Copper Bullet, the 8-year-old son of More Than Ready, won the 2017 Saratoga Special Stakes (G2) and finished second in the Bashford Manor Stakes (G3) and Razorback Handicap (G3) for the Purebred Winchell and Willis Horton Races. .
Owner Ron Winchell collaborated with Dr David Lambert’s Equine System to identify mares that qualified for the first book of Copper Bullet. If a mare meets Lambert’s criteria, the season is free and mare owners are paid $5,000 when confirmed as a foal after 45 days.
Copper Bullet currently stands at Darby Dan near Lexington for $7,500.
