2020 BC Turf Sprint Heroine Glass Slippers Retired
Glass Slippers , the winner of the 2020 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1T) at Keeneland, has been retired after her eighth-place end on this 12 months’s version Nov. 6 at Del Mar.
The 5-year-old daughter of Dream Ahead entered the Breeders’ Cup off three consecutive third-place efforts in Europe, including the Oct. 3 Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp Longines (G1) at ParisLongchamp and Sept. 12 Derrinstown Stud Flying Five (G1) at the Curragh. She won the Abbaye in 2019 and was second in the race in 2020, and also captured last year’s Flying Five. Glass Slippers collected a record of 7-3-4 in 21 starts between ages 2 and 5.
Trainer Kevin Ryan told the Racing Post: “Glass Slippers was flat out all the way and never got a chance to fill up. She’s been a great mare for us and she’ll be off to the paddocks now.”
Glass Slippers was one of three European trainees in Saturday’s Turf Sprint. Ridden by Tom Eaves, she was off slow and sat sixth through the early going before crossing the wire eighth as Wesley Ward-trained Golden Pal , owned by the Coolmore connections, led at every point. Ryan also sent out Godolphin’s Emaraaty Ana for a fourth-place finish in the Turf Sprint.
A British homebred for Bearstone Stud, Glass Slippers is out of the winning Mind Games mare Night Gypsy. She is a half sister to group 3-placed stakes winner Electric Feel and stakes-placed Aunt Nicola.
