College Football Week 5 – Winner by Scott Van Pelt

7-2 weeks moves us to November 19. I’ve come up with three consecutive winners in the NFL as well as in our Head-to-head segment Wednesday, but adding that to the official record, it’s going to be tough. I have many things – not one of them. So we are officially November 19. Want to add nine? That’s convenient – it’s the number on the card.

Friday

Number 15 Washington (-3, 64,5) at UCLA
10:30pm ET on ESPNRose Bowl, Pasadena, California

Van Pelt’s Pick: UCLA (+3)

If you are familiar with the segment, you can guess certain teams in certain positions are given. UCLA at home on Friday against hot and undefeated Washington is one such team. Bruins is at home to take us flying fast on Saturday in a late Friday night cover. We are buying it to 3.

SVP: 5-2 CLOSED ALL TIME ANTI-WASHING WITH STANDARD TEAM

Saturday

Purdue in 21st place Minnesota (-12, 53.5)
12 p.m. ET on ESPN2Huntington Bank Stadium, Minneapolis

Van Pelt’s Pick: Purdue (+12)

We are operating in the noon window. Watch Gameday, steady and on fire, right? Why not? Minnesota has carried people long distances. Gophers beat four opponents with 159 points. But we can’t shout “Bump the big drums!” if we take them – can we? We can not. So two digit gimme and Boilers.

SVP: 5-2 PICKING PURDUE EVERY TIME

Number 7 Kentucky in 14th place Ole Miss (-7, 54, 5)
12 p.m. ET on ESPNVaught-Hemingway Stadium, Oxford, Mississippi

Van Pelt’s pick: Ole Miss (-7)

Questions for Grove? Are you ready? Well, I’m ready to put points with Rebs with Kentucky in town. See you at the Library to celebrate.

SVP: 10-4 SEC’s FAVORITE OF ALL TIME

No. 18 Oklahoma (-7, 46) at TCU
12 p.m. ET on ABCAmon G. Carter Stadium, Fort Worth, Texas

Van Pelt’s pick: TCU (+7)

Looks like we’re late to support Horned Frogs this year – yes, yes. Was against them last week and paid the price, we will buy it up to 7 and hope for the best when the OU visits the stockpiles.

SVP: 8-5 CLOSED ALL TIME AGAINST OKLAHOMA

State of Iowa (-3, 59) at Kansas
3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, Lawrence, Kansas

Van Pelt’s Pick: Iowa State (-3)

This makes me suffer. I love Lawrence and the story of the Jayhawks. But with Kansas rolling and undefeated, why would the Jayhawks fall behind at home to Iowa State? Doesn’t make any sense to you, does it? With me. If you know – you know. Gotta put the number here. Sorry, Kansas – I know you’re angry.

SVP: 7-4-1 STATE IOWA CLOSED ALL TIMES

Virginia Technology in North Carolina (-9, 54,5)
3:30 p.m. ET on ACC . NetworkKenan Stadium, Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Van Pelt’s Pick: Virginia Tech (+9)

This is a late addition. It’s unclear what the weather we’re seeing in Chapel Hill, but if they’re playing as usual on the field or if you have to sail around, your defense won’t slow many people down. We’ll get generous candy and sugar from Blacksburg.

SVP: 6-3 VIRGINIA TECH PICKING EVERY TIME

California in Washington state (-4, 53.5)
5:30 p.m. ET, Martin Stadium, Pullman, Washington

Van Pelt’s Pick: California (+4)

Coogs, we love you for getting the score late to help us get the cover for last week’s Winner. I’m afraid that might have taken the edge off a bit. We’re on Cal plus small numbers on Paloose.

SVP: 7-3 PICKING CALIFORNIA

Virginia in Duke (-3, 52)
7:30pm ET on ESPN3Wallace Wade Stadium, Durham, North Carolina

Van Pelt’s pick: Virginia (+3)

The last two things are related. Virginia, you brought us to the window last week in a strange window in Syracuse. The number in Durham seems a bit light. Lots of extra juices this week – so maybe – we’re buying this up to 3 and scratching our heads curious if UVa is the right side here.

SVP: 6-2 VIRGINIA CLOSED ALL TIME

No.1 Georgia (-29, 54.5) at Missouri
7:30pm ET on SEC NetworkMemorial Stadium / Faurot Field, Columbia, Missouri

Van Pelt’s pick: Mizzou (+29)

The last one – HOTYBS. What is HOTYBS? Hold your butt tight especially. Mizzou, you protected us in the plains last Saturday. But going up against Georgia is scary even if you’re 29. Looking for a show of hands out there – who to me? Not a human. Damn it – it’s fine – we’ll do it. We will take the tigers.

SVP: 1-4 TEAM NOT ASSESSED ALL TIME vs NO. 1 TEAM

ALRIGHT. Have your 9-er. Birdcage – inverted – no teasing.
