Clear’s JFK 7-lane Terminal closes just weeks after opening

Just weeks after bringing express lanes to Terminal 7 inside New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), Strange suspended the service inside that terminal.

It was just over a month ago that Clear brought its ultra-fast security experience to Terminal 7, which meant it was working in three JFK terminals at the time.

However, Clear has now “temporarily closed” its Terminal 7 operations, a company spokesman confirmed to TPG. Clear’s website showing its JFK locations also shows closures.

Company officials did not share specifics about the reason for the change. However, the move comes at a time when JFK’s Terminal 7 is undergoing a rapid turnaround when it comes to the airlines it serves.

Notably, the closing of Clear’s service took place as soon as United Airlines cuts its service in Terminal 7 – and at JFK in general – in late October, ending daily intercontinental flights to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO). United is an obvious partner.

November and December will see even more movement from Terminal 7. Starting mid-November British Airways will begin the transition to Terminal 8, where it relocated to join its American Airlines partner Oneworld; it’s a move that is expected to be completed by December.

Meanwhile, Clear’s other major airline partner – Delta Air Lines – operates out of Terminals 2 and 4 at JFK, the two JFK terminals where Clear kiosks still operate. Clear is available in Terminal 2 from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. for TSA PreCheck eligible guests and in Terminal 4 from 4:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day for both TSA PreCheck and TSA members. other tourists.

Currently, although Clear’s service in Terminal 7 has been discontinued, the kiosks are still there, like TPG managing editor for news Clint Henderson noticed when passing Saturday morning to board the only remaining domestic airline flight in Terminal 7 – Alaska Airlines.

In case you were wondering, Henderson noted that the TSA Pre-Check lanes remain open.

Again, Clear calls this a “temporary” closure. So, United is also calling the departure from JFK “temporary”, so we will definitely be keeping an eye on the company’s plans for JFK service in the future.

In the meantime, you can still use Clear at more than 60 other airport and stadium locations nationwide, including in New York at LaGuardia Airport (LGA), Madison Square Garden and Stadium Yankee.
