Cigar Mile Tops Aqueduct Fall Meet Stakes Lineup

The New York Racing Association announced Sept. 6 the stakes schedule for the 2023 fall meet at Aqueduct Racetrack, which will offer 33 stakes, 10 of them graded events, worth a total of $6.385 million.

Following the conclusion of Belmont at the Big A fall meet which spans Sept. 14 through Oct. 29, the 31-day Aqueduct fall meet will run from Nov. 2 through Dec. 31.

The Aqueduct fall meet will be highlighted by the $500,000 Cigar Mile Handicap (G2) for 3-year-olds and upward Dec. 2. The one-mile dirt race was downgraded from grade 1 status in 2023.

The lucrative Cigar Mile Day program co-features the $250,000 Remsen Stakes (G2) going 1 1/8 miles for juveniles, as well as the $250,000 Demoiselle Stakes (G2) at the same distance for juvenile fillies. Also that day is the $200,000 Go for Wand Handicap (G3) for fillies and mares 3 years old and upward at one-turn mile over the main track.

The stakes action begins Nov. 3, with the listed $150,000 Turnback the Alarm Stakes for fillies and mares going 1 1/8 miles and the $150,000 Discovery Stakes for sophomores, also at 1 1/8 miles.
