There has been a lot of information about Chris Eubank Jr’s training for his upcoming fight with Conor Benn, specifically who will likely take the reins in the camp.
Eubank Jr’s connection to Roy Jones Jr seems to be going well, and he told the former boxer he will be in his corner until the day he hangs up his gloves. However, that all changed when the fight with Conor Benn was carried out, with Eubank saying that it only made sense for his father to train him. Jones, as it happened, agreed.
But the plan was changed again as Chris Eubank Sr emotionally tried to prolong the war completely, never mind refusing to train your son, on the grounds that cutting weight is dangerous. While Junior was still hoping to have his ex there for the evening, the practice session was almost over and he didn’t let him go to the gym.
So who is guiding the confident Brighton man to lead? he himself, he told Good Morning Britainwhich his style is not a big surprise.
“Actually, I trained myself for this fight. My father always kept his distance”.
Despite not approaching the fight in a traditional way, Junior is still well aware of what is at stake. As he discussed the pressure on his shoulders, he reinforced his vow to retire if Benn wins.
“There is a huge pressure on me for this fight. This is the first time I’ve said it in my career – if I lose this game, I’ll retire. And I love fighting. I love sports, I love being a boxer. I don’t want it to end”.
“Losing against Conor Benn at this stage of my career, it means I’m not the fighter I used to think I was or I thought I was. I want to challenge for world titles within the next 6-12 months. I can’t do that with a loss to Conor Benn.
There’s a lot of pressure on me not only to win, but to keep up the name, the family legacy we’ve created.”
