Owner Nick White is still buzzing a day since Holloway Boy Chesham Stakes’ success is astounding at Royal Ascot, though he has to find time to do rotations at the garden center he owns near Southend.
Coached by Karl Burke, Holloway Boy made his debut in Chesham and was largely a social athlete for White, who had been part of an association run by Henry Ponsonby and became enamored with coaching. late trainer Sir Henry Cecil— “a real man” —when visiting their horses.

“I am a big bettor and have bet on almost every race at Royal Ascot,” he said.
“I booked the weekend off, read the Racing Post every morning and I don’t have any betting apps on my phone, so I had to go to the bookie.
“I went to Ascot top up for lots of bets and support Stratigraphy , the ultimate winner, but not a penny on our horse. However, members of my family have won thousands. Other people call me saying they’ve won £6,000 or £4,000 — they’re at 100-1 and 80-1. No encouragement from the yard; Like I said, we had fun beating a few houses.
“I know a lot of people and my message to everyone is ‘Boy’s running on Saturday – don’t get mad because it’s the first time in a tough race.’ But people make £100 just because they know me and want to follow the horse.”
White, whose late father, Jack, was a bookmaker and later a full-time gambler, revealed that his phone was already hot with exciting underage offers.
“We received a few calls from Hong Kong this morning,” he said. “But I’m very reluctant to sell it; I’m in it for fun.”
