While Chery’s booth at the Malaysia Motor Show wasn’t exactly a buzz of activity (the company’s real action was on other places), the Chinese brand still had something to show off at the event. As promised, it’s here plug-in hybrid version Later Tiggo 8 Proe+, albeit only in preview and left-hand drive form.
The heart of this special Tiggo 8 Pro is the Omoda 5’s 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 156 horsepower/230 Nm, combined with twin electric motors integrated into a specialized hybrid transmission. three-level application (DHT). Total system output is rated at 326 PS and maximum torque of 545 Nm.
In China, the Tiggo 8 Pro e+ is available with two battery sizes – the smaller offers a pure electric range of 42 km on the WLTP cycle, while the larger 19.27 kWh model offers up to up to 80 km. All models support DC fast charging up to 29 kW and AC charging up to 6.6 kW; The larger battery also enables vehicle load (V2L) functionality of up to 3.3 kW.
Chery says its PHEV has nine operating modes – single motor pure electric, dual motor pure electric, series and extended range mode, direct motor drive mode and parallel drive mode . Despite the difference between single and dual motor operation, the Tiggo 8 Pro e+ remains resolutely a front-wheel drive car.
The remaining four modes deal with energy recovery – parking and charging mode, driving and charging mode, single motor brake energy regeneration and dual motor brake energy regeneration. This is normal for PHEVs, with the exception of the aforementioned single and dual motor modes.
There are very few differences on the outside of the e+, unlike in China where it has a completely new user interface. That means you’ll still find the massive Audi-style “galaxy” front grille, trapezoidal LED headlights with twin L-shaped daytime running lights, chrome door and window strips as well as Full-width taillights. Even the 19-inch two-tone alloy wheels are similar to the gasoline version.
There are actually only three differences – the charging port door on the left front fender, the blue ring around the fuel tank cap and the new diffuser that distributes the real dual exhaust from the fake dual exhaust. That’s not surprising because you also see this on the Omoda 5 with the same engine.
The same can be said of the interior, which includes a seven-seat layout, a Mercedes-inspired dashboard (complete with a widescreen display panel with two 12.3-inch screens) and even both black and brown tones. The only visible difference is the blue border on the electronic gear selector.
No details on local availability were revealed, only that the car will arrive as a locally assembled CKD. The car was originally expected to arrive early this year, and that deadline has long since passed, so your guess as to when it actually arrives is as good as ours.
