MG4 XPower announced as the most powerful production vehicle of the brand

MG, Chinese-born British car manufacturer known for selling small roadsters decade ago, unveiled its most powerful production car yet. The MG4 XPower is coming to showrooms across the pond, and the brand has also announced a concept that pays tribute to its collective heritage.

Based on the regular production MG4 due out in 2022, the top-end XPower gets a dual-motor electric powertrain rated at Rs. 435 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. For comparison, the base MG4 gets a single-engine powertrain that makes 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, while the mid-range model gets a 203-horsepower system. MG quotes a 0 to 62 mph time of 3.8 seconds for the XPower.

The driving range has yet to be announced. The MG4’s standard range varies from 218 to 281 miles depending on the powertrain.

MG notes that its engineers have made a number of chassis and suspension updates to give the XPower the engaging handling that buyers expect from a well-rounded model. They’ve added a trim-specific electronic limited-slip differential, more responsive steering, stiffer springs, shock absorbers and anti-roll bars. The following components make the suspension 25% stiffer than the regular MG4. Four-wheel torque vectoring is also standard.

The designers have given the XPower a relatively subtle design, characterized by 18-inch wheels, orange paint on the calipers, black roof panels and some decorative touches such as the contours. glossy on the seesaw. Racing Green (pictured) is only available on XPower.

Made in ChinaThe MG4 XPower will hit UK showrooms in July 2023. Prices start at £36,495, or about $46,500.

There is a more powerful evolution of XPower being rolled out. MG will travel to 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed opened on July 13 to reveal a concept called EX4. It uses XPower’s powertrain, but it has heritage-inspired styling tights designed as a tribute to subway 6R4 which the brand developed in the 1980s to compete in Group B rally events around the world. We haven’t seen the concept yet, it’s shrouded in darkness, but the MG preview images show a deep front splitter, perforated wheel arches and a large wing.
