The 149th Annual Kentucky Derby proved more star-studded than ever on May 6. Before the horses hit the Churchill Downs track, a lot of celebrities, including Jack Harlow Louisville native, NFL player Patrick Mahomes and Anna Nicole Smith’s daughter, Dannielynn Birkhead, walked the red carpet ahead of the event. As always, the only thing that was controversial with the horses was to behold the multitude of large hats and extravagant costumes worn by racegoers.
Although the actual race only lasted two minutes, the Kentucky Derby celebration goes on all weekend. On May 5, a long list of celebrities wore their best party outfits to the Barnstable Brown Derby and New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner. This year’s guest list includes Chris Pine and his dad, Robert Pine; Justin Hartley; and Jordin Sparks.
For horse fans, the highlight of the Kentucky Derby is watching the thoroughbred horses run as fast as lightning on the famous track. But for everyone else – including the stars – the hosted sporting event is also notable for being a place to sip mints, an excuse to fiddle around picking out the perfect hat, as well as see and be seen all over Louisville. Thankfully, celebrities from all walks of life have understood this year’s mission.
