Canon and Nikon, after a slow start, have both consistently released excellent mirrorless bodies. Their respective latest cameras are more or less direct rivals, so how do they compare?
I’ve never been one to peruse spec sheets, looking for every difference between the cameras I’m interested in. For me, having the features I need, great features if any, and everything else is a bonus. The new one Canon EOS R3 and Nikon Z9 costs roughly the same ($5,999 for the former and $5,496 for the latter) and is said to be as close to intended use as a hybrid full-frame mirrorless body being offered at the pros. However, their spec sheets differ in almost every aspect.
I spent some time going through the specs line-by-line for comparison, just to get a better understanding as I’m not sure which to buy either and Canon wins most of the battles in my eyes. However, it’s not a snap decision that you should buy, even if you don’t understand the brand at all. In these situations, I would choose to shoot with both for the feel, which is exactly what Manny Ortiz and Dan Watson do in this video.
