Canon Announces EOS R10 24MP APS-C Mirrorless Camera

With EOS R7Canon announced another RF-mount mirrorless camera with an APS-C sensor — EOS R10—A little less than two-thirds of the price. The R10 builds on a 24-megapixel sensor with Dual Pixel AF, compared to the 32.5MP sensor in the R7.

For photography, the R10 offers the same range of features as its more expensive sibling. Like the R7, continuous shooting is 15 fps with the mechanical shutter (but 23 fps with the electronic shutter versus the R7’s 30 fps), and the R10 inherits the R3’s modes to track animals, people and vehicles. On the video front, the R10 has more compromises than the R7. While the camera can capture oversampled 4K/30p video using the full sensor width, there’s a hefty crop (1.56x) for the 4K/60p option. There’s 10-bit HDR PQ on offer, but no C-Log 3 capture like the R7.

Other differences between the R10 and R7 include the lack of weather resistance, a single SD UHS-II card slot, and the lack of a headphone socket. The R7 and R10 both share the same 2.36M-dot OLED EVF, but the R7’s rear display is a 4:3-aspect 1.43M-dot panel, as opposed to a 3:2-aspect LCD 1.62M-dot of R7. Like Canon’s Rebel series DSLRs, the R10 uses an LP-E17 battery that delivers 450 shots per charge using the EVF (CIPA rated).

The EOS R10 will cost $980 body-only and, like its larger sibling, will be available “late 2022.” One of two new lenses specifically designed for crop sensor cameras — 18–45mm f / 4.5–6.3 IS STM and 18–150mm f / 3.5–6.3 IS STM — that can be paired with the R10 body with prices are $1,100 and $1,380 respectively.
