Canelo On Knocking Out Golovkin: “That’s My Goal For This Fight”

No wonder there is bad blood between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez. After all, they fought teeth and nails twice. Not only that, each match of both ends with a controversial decision. However, to make things really hostile, Golovkin suggested that Canelo knowingly ingest the banned substance, which he was eventually suspended for having in his system between the first and second. Simply put, the two boxers are not big fans of each other. And Canelo wants to settle the matter once and for all when he fights Golovkin for the third time this weekend at the T-Mobil Arena in Las Vegas. In other words, he wanted to completely take down his arch-rival.

“Look,” Canelo told the media during the week, “that is my goal for this match (to take down Golovkin) but I will keep my mind focused on whether the knockout is okay. no, otherwise I’m ready for 12 circles. “Canelo is smart to maintain such a strategy. The truth is that both he and Golovkin have granite chins. The shots they threw and landed at each other over the course of 72 rounds were horrendous – but neither of them was really close to being knocked out, much less stopping.

However, Canelo is aware of how tough and talented his old foil is. “He did well,” he said of Golovkin’s last time in the ring, when he stopped Ryoto Murata at nine. “He is also a martial artist. He’s strong, he takes punches, he hits hard.” Make no mistake about it, Canelo knows what he’s up to when he enters the ring at T-Mobile Arena this Saturday night. “For this camp,” Canelo said, “I started running again three times a week.” Running is something that the man has avoided for a while due to his knees. As for Golovkin, however, Canelo did his best.

Of course the redhead star has extra motivation to win and win big this weekend, given the loss to Dmitry Bivol last spring. However, Canelo jumped on the scales for that fight, hoping to once again score a big win in the light heavyweight division, as he had done with Sergey Kovalev a few years earlier. Although he unsuccessfully tried to snatch Bivol’s WBA championship belt from his gloved hands, Canelo will face Golovkin in super middleweight for the first time this Saturday (two) their previous match was for middleweight dominance). “The thing I feel the best about is being 168 years old,” Canelo said.

Of course, that means Canelo will be fighting his natural weight this Saturday night – a tough night for anyone, even Gennady Golovkin.
