Canelo Álvarez has been involved in some of the biggest boxing events in recent times and he is just a few months away from being the match of the year.
On September 17, the Mexican defended his undisputed Super Middleweight title first arch rival Gennady Golovkin at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. For the second time in his career, he’s entered the fight after a loss, was defeated by Dmitry Bivol when challenging for the WBA lightweight belt in May.

The bout has been rumored for some time but now looks like closer than ever, to the President of Showtime Sports Stephen Espinoza ‘optimistic’ it can happen this year.

While at a press event for his upcoming trio match, Canelo was asked for his opinion on a potential Spence-Crawford encounter:
“I think it was a good fight. That would be a really good fight. “
“Spence is a really good fighter, but I think Crawford [nods head]. “
The interviewer then asked him if he thought Crawford would stay south for the game?
“He can convert that. I think he’s better.”
Despite stating his choice clearly, the interview still asked if he would support Spence for victory, to which Canelo’s response was emphatic:
“No, no, no, Crawford!”
