Campaigner Dame Deborah James says she’s ‘angry’ over terminal illness but hopes to be able to comfort others | UK News

Dame Deborah James said she was “angry” when she learned she was terminally ill and said she didn’t want to die.

Campaigner – last month was honored with a damehood from the Duke of Cambridge – spoke of how she felt after doctors told her there was nothing else they could do for her.

Dame Deborah chronicled her journey on social media after being diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2016.

She has raised more than £6.6 million for Cancer Research UK, Bowel Cancer UK and Royal Marsden Cancer Charity through her Bowelbabe fund on JustGiving.

Dame Deborah said she feels “angry” especially this week, but added that she feels happy doing things like helping her family cook and prepare in the morning.

She told The Sun: “Death is hard. I’ve been consumed by anger this week, to be honest, I’ve been a real b*tch person.

“I kept shouting at people and pushing them away. I was angry at what was happening to me. I didn’t want to die.”

She said what was happening “felt like a horrible joke”, adding that death was “life’s ultimate taboo” and she hoped that by talking about it, she will bring comfort to others.

Earlier this week, Dame Deborah hosted a sleepover with her friends and family, which she said “put a big smile on my face”.
