California ISO releases Flex Alert for today, August 31Extreme temperatures cause urgent need to save electricity from 4 to 9 pm
FOLSOM, California – The California Independent Systems Operator (ISO) has issued a statewide Flex Alert, a voluntary call to save electricity, for today, Aug. evening hours, as high temperatures drive energy demand and tighten available power.
With extreme heat forecast across much of the state and western US, the grid operator is expecting high electricity demand, primarily from the use of air conditioning, and is calling for steps to conserve nature. Pray to help balance supply and demand.
Additional Flexibility Warnings may also be in place throughout the Labor Day weekend as record-setting temperatures are forecast across much of the West.
In what could be the most widespread heatwave ever in the West this year, temperatures in Northern California are expected to be 10-20 degrees warmer than usual through Tuesday. , September 6. In Southern California, the temperature is expected to be 10 degrees. -18 degrees warmer than usual. Death Valley is now forecast to peak at 126 degrees on Saturday, equivalent to the highest temperature ever recorded on Earth during September.
Today’s Flex Alert is scheduled from 4pm to 9pm, when the grid is most stressed due to higher demand and less solar power. During that time, consumers are encouraged to save electricity by setting their thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, health permitting, avoiding large apps and turning off unnecessary lights. They should also avoid charging electric vehicles while Dynamic Alerts are in effect.
To minimize discomfort and help stabilize the grid, consumers are also encouraged to pre-cool their homes and use major appliances and charge electric vehicles and electronics by 4 p.m., when conservation begins. The head becomes the most important.
