BYD Atto 3: Warranty in Australia, service price confirmed – UPDATED


Service and warranty information for BYD Atto 3 was announced as the first vehicle to reach Australian customers.

BYD will cover its cars with a six-year, 150,000 km warranty and their batteries with an eight-year, 160,000 km warranty – with a battery life equal to or greater than 70%.

UPDATE, 8/23/22 – We have updated this article with the different warranty periods outlined in the BYD warranty terms and conditions. They are detailed below.

Look at warranty terms and conditions, however, discloses a range of different warranty periods. Including:

  • Electric motor, high voltage assembly, motor control unit: 8 years or 150,000 km
  • Lights, tire pressure monitoring module, suspension, ball joints: four years or 100,000 km
  • 12V battery: one year or 12,000 km

The infotainment system is covered by a three-year, 60,000 km warranty, along with components such as shock absorbers, wheel bearings, USB charging port connector and AC/DC charging port assembly.

Requires servicing every 12 months or 20,000 km whichever comes first. Service prices are as follows:

  • 12 months / 20,000km: $190.37
  • 24 months / 40,000km: 504.25 USD
  • 36 months / 60,000 km: $190.37
  • 48 months / 80,000km: $661.32
  • 60 months / 100,000 km: $190.37
  • 72 months / 120,000 km: 504.25 USD
  • 84 months / 140,000km: 190.37 USD
  • 96 months / 160,000km: $661.32

Service prices include labor and mandatory maintenance parts such as cabin filters.

Free service for three months, first 5000 km.

Service can be performed at a BYD dealer, part of the Eagers network, or one of nearly 30 BYD mycar service centers.

A BYD service app is in development, as well as a range of accessories.

All BYD models will also come with 12 months of 24/7 roadside assistance. You will be able to purchase additional insurance.

Additional information that has been recently announced by the company includes a confirmation of Atto 3’s towing capacity (750kg with brake, 700kg without brake) and roof load (50kg).

More than 4,000 orders were placed for the electric SUV prior to this announcement, and public test drives have yet to begin for the vehicle. They will start in October.

Example of the first right hand drive only revealed earlier this month in Brisbane.

BYD says they can make 3000 Atto 3s per month for our right hand drive market. If this turns out to be the case, BYD will be second in the electric car sales race here this year, behind only Tesla and ahead of Hyundai and MG.

Head of EVDirect.com.au, Luke Todd, said he was “proud to say that the first BYD Atto 3 trucks are now rolling out across Brisbane and there will be thousands soon to come thousands more. [will be] nationwide”.

The Chinese automaker, which uses EVDirect as its local distributor, will expand its range early next year with a hatchback and a sedan – possibly the Dolphin and Seal. Pre-orders are expected to open for these models later this year.

The Atto 3 electric SUV will compete with (also of China) MG 4, Ora catand updated MG ZS EV.

Prices start at $44,990 while driving depending on your state, with the Extended Range costing more than $3000 and a crash range of up to 100km to 420km in the WLTP cycle.

Both variants use BYD’s in-house ‘Blade’ LFP battery, with the base car packing 50kWh capacity and 60kWh extension models.

The battery powers the 150kW and 310Nm front-wheel-drive electric motors, capable of propelling the Atto 3 from zero to 100km/h in 7.3 seconds.

Features a 400V charging architecture, with a maximum AC charging capacity of 7kW and DC charging up to 80kW. V2L (truck) technology is standard.

Globally, BYD is considered one of the longest-standing competitors to Tesla among so-called ‘non-legacy’ brands, and is even poised to its in-house battery supply to the electric car superstar run by Elon Musk.
