Atlantic reintroduced its best-ever mile-buying promotion: For a limited time, Flying Club members can purchase virgin points with bonuses up to 70%.
This latest Virgin Atlantic promotion is tiered, meaning the more Virgin Points you buy, the bigger your bonus will be. The biggest bonus you can get is 70%, while the smallest one is 20%. At the highest bonus, this reduces the purchase price to 1.48 cents per point.
The tiered bonus structure for purchasing Virgin Points as part of this deal is broken down as follows:
- Buy from 5,000 to 24,000 points, get 20% bonus.
- Buy from 25,000 to 69,000 points, get 30% bonus.
- Buy from 70,000 to 119,000 points, get 50% bonus.
- Buy 120,000 to 200,000 points, get 70% bonus.
In other words, if you want to get the full 70% bonus, be ready to spend a decent amount.
This promotion runs through December 31. Please also note that under terms and conditions, Flying Club members can purchase up to 100,000 Virgin Points per calendar year. However, the limit has been increased to 200,000 points during this promotion.
Note that bonus points earned during this promotion do not count towards that total. In addition, all point-of-purchase transactions are subject to a $25 transaction fee.
US-registered Flying Club accounts pay slightly more than UK-registered accounts for Virgin Points. As noted by One mile at a time, this is because Virgin Atlantic sells points to US accounts at a rate of $27 per 1,000 points before the bonus. UK accounts pay £15 for every 1,000 points, or about $18.41 at the time of writing.
It’s worth it?
Before going into the specifics, it is worth mentioning that TPG does not recommend speculative buying. In other words, if you don’t have an immediate need to use the purchased points, it may not be a good idea to buy a large amount. That’s because airline currencies are generally a bad long-term investment — at any time, they can Price break with little notice.

Tickets operated by Virgin Atlantic usually come with high fuel surcharge, but many partner redemptions do not add these fees. The London-based airline does not regularly run promotions to buy miles. If you’ve been waiting for one, now is the time to act.

This is an attractive mileage purchase promotion from Virgin. If you’re looking for a few extra Virgin Points, buying points for as little as 1.48 cents each is a solid deal.
